The Wisconsin Journey
Wisconsin French Explorers, Missionaries and Fur Traders This unit will focus on French explorers, missionaries and fur traders. Students will investigate how French exploration not only led to the earliest and most important industry in North America, but also changed life for the Native Americans. Fur trading played a major role in the development of Wisconsin. Traders and trappers explored much of Wisconsin in search of fur. They built trading posts in the wilderness and settlements grew up around many of these posts. Some of these settlements became major cities in Wisconsin.
